Five Tips To Help Your Child Learn Guitar
So you want your child to learn to play the guitar? That is great, but since learning to play this enchanting instrument can take a long time, it is important to accompany and help your children along the process. It is crucial to stimulate the learning process and to help your kid keep motivated otherwise he/she might soon give up. There are basically five tips to help your child learn guitar and enjoy every step of it.
1)Do not force your kid to practice at home. You can always suggest him/her to practice, but do not make it an obligation and do not reward or punish practicing or not. This is something that must give the child pleasure. Any given pressure will take out all the joy of it. If the child feels he/she is doing it by personal choice, he/she will feel prone to keep on with the activity that was chosen for fun.
2)Show your interest on the progress of your child and praise his/her achievements, no matter how slow the progress seems or even if your kid does not seem to have too much skills. Enhance the fact of keeping advancing, regardless the pace.
3)Ask your kid to teach you. This way the child will realize how far he/she has gone, up to the point of being able to teach “mom” or “dad”. This will contribute to the self-confidence and self esteem of the child. Being able to have something to give or to teach to you will make the kid feel important and will realize that this has been reached through guitar. So, it will increase his/her willingness to keep learning.
4)Listen to music as much as possible, make it at home or while driving to school. Slowly you will be making music a part of your lives, it will be most helpful if you choose music where guitar stands out among other instruments. Every now and then you can introduce comments like “what a great song! Can you hear the guitar? You will soon be able to play it!”. If possible, try to make him/her listen to popular songs that your child already knows.
5)Play music together and have fun! If you play an instrument even just a bit, play songs together or let you child play the guitar while you sing. It is not about seeking perfection; it is about sharing good moments through music. Make of it a family activity that brings joy and laughter, something your child will remember and associate to the guitar, it will contribute to develop a bond with the instrument and stimulate further learning.
